Chromosome condensation and T cell development
The nessy mouse has a mutation which prevents normal development of T cells. The mutation affects a protein (kleisin beta) involved in chromosome structure. This is an unexpected finding which links two exciting fields of research. We aim to understand: why and how this mutation specifically affects T cells, and what role chromosome structure plays in cell development. This research will provide important new information on the development of T cells (cells crucial in fighting infection and cancer).
