Determine the genetic architecture of adaptive traits in plants
Whole genome sequence variation data, from select mapping population samples, allows one to dissect the causal genetic loci responsible for phenotypic variation. These genome wide association studies are being performed in Arabidopsis thaliana and Brachypodium distachyon plant model organisms. Real time phenotyping and other Phenomic analysis will be performed across multiple contrasting environments that simulate local growing seasons. These experiments aim to determine the genetic basis of local adaptation in the laboratory. The results will identify the genetic complexity, and suggest key pathways, for climate adaptation in crops and foundation species.
