About
Biosecurity is the tool we use to stop the introduction and spread of damaging organisms including viruses, bacteria, animals, plants, pathogens and insects into Australia. It is a critical part of Australia’s efforts to prevent, respond to, and recover from pests and diseases that threaten our food supply, public health, environment, and global trade. Collectively, economic, environmental and social benefits are underpinned by the nation’s environmental assets. The assets are estimated to be worth $5.7 trillion. Researchers at RSB apply cutting edge life science technologies, spanning genomics to field studies and remote sensing. Their research informs evidence-based strategies to manage biosecurity threats and incursions across the country.

Delivering Australian Biosecurity Solutions

The ARC Training Centre in Plant Biosecurity (PBTC) delivers solutions for Australia’s increasing biosecurity risk by training a new generation of qualified workers coupled with development of breakthrough technologies. The centre enables an innovative training program for future leaders who will build relationships across industry, government, and academia. The Training Centre underpins innovation in novel diagnostic technologies, data-driven decision platforms and overcoming barriers to biosecurity adoption. The centre is built on the long-standing fundamental and applied research track record of RSB in plant host microbe interactions, genomics, bioinformatics and similar disciplines.
