Anion-templated self–assembly

We are exploring anion templation for creating stable molecular structures like supramolecular macrocycles and cages. Our research focuses on host–guest chemistry and stimuli-responsive mechanisms to control the opening and closing of these containers, aiming to develop them as drug delivery systems.

We are studying the use of anions to template the formation of discrete molecular architectures such as supramolecular macrocycles and cages that are stable in solution and the solid state.  As well as investigating the scope and limitation of anion templation, we are interested in the host–guest chemistry of anion-templated container molecules, and the use of stimuli to open and close these containers (and trap and release guest molecules).  An ultimate goal of this line of research is to use these kinds of stimuli-responsive structures as drug delivery agents.
