Expert advice and support to Australian-based LI-COR Environmental customers is now provided by researchers at The Australian National University.

LI-COR, a privately held US company, has been supplying expert information and instruments in the fields of plant biology, biotechnology and environmental research since the 1970s.

Each Australian client can now take advantage of a new commercial partnership between ANU, represented by the ANU Research School of Biology (RSB) and ANU Enterprise (ANUE), and LI-COR.

Australian LI-COR customers requiring technical support will phone or email ANUE direct, who will connect all calls through to the right RSB researcher.

“Using the talent and expertise found among University staff, both technical and academic, to help solve practical problems is rewarding and educational to all those involved,” said Professor Graham Farquhar of the RSB.

ANUE will provide the first point of contact with LI-COR customers, as well as administrative support for the collaboration.

“ANUE is pleased to be able to help RSB try new ways of interacting with industry, and are keen to facilitate the relationship in such a way that makes it easy for the staff to do so,” said ANUE Chief Executive Director Sarah Pearson.

The partnership was initiated by Professor Farquhar as a way of expanding the relationship between the two entities beyond a traditional customer/sales role.

“The RSB has a long history of excellence in plant physiology and environmental science, and the fit with LI-COR seemed logical,” Professor Farquhar said.

Providing timely and expert support to researchers is a priority, says LI-COR International Sales Manager Brent Claassen.

“The team at ANUE and RSB provide in depth knowledge of both the theory and use of our instruments. We look forward to joining in this partnership as an additional tool for supporting users in Australia,” Mr Claassen said.
