The following six people have recently been appointed to Academic positions in the Research School of Biology, and will join us in the New Year:

Justin Borevitz, currently at the University of Chicago. Justin works in the area of the genetics of plants' adaptation to their environment and he will be based in the School's Division of Plant Sciences.

Ben Corry, presently an ARC Australian Research Fellow at UWA. Ben works on membrane ion channels and he will be based in the >Division of Biomedical Science and Biochemistry.

Sylvain Foret, currently a Research Fellow with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, based at JCU. Sylvain is interested in the evolution of invertebrates and has extensive expertise in the analysis of biological sequence data. He will be based in the Division of Evolution, Ecology and Genetics.

Alex Maier, presently an ARC Australian Research Fellow at La Trobe University. Alex works on molecular mechanisms of malaria pathogenesis and he will be based in the Division of Biomedical Science and Biochemistry.

Sarah Pryke currently a Research Fellow at Macquarie University. Sarah works in the area of bird behavior, ecology and evolution and she will be based in the Division of Evolution, Ecology and Genetics.

Giel van Dooren, currently an ARC QEII Fellowship at the University of Melbourne. Giel works on the biology of the protozoan parasite, toxoplasma, and he will be based in the Division of Biomedical Science and Biochemistry.

Early next year we will also be joined by a new Medical School appointment, Richard Callaghan, who is presently at the University of Oxford. Richard's research is in the area of anticancer drug resistance and membrane proteins and he will be based in the Division of Biomedical Science and Biochemistry.

The School's new Laureate Fellow, Craig Moritz will join us later next year. Craig currently holds joint positions as the Director of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Craig will be based in the School's Division of Evolution, Ecology and Genetics. His project aims to predict and discover biodiversity hotspots in the monsoonal tropics of Australia.
