A pair of Magpie-larks in duet

Paired female and male Australian magpie-larks, Grallina cyanoleuca, can sing alone or in duets in which individuals alternate notes. The responding bird times its notes with split-second accuracy, so that most duets have almost perfect rhythm and avoid any overlap of notes. What is the benefit of such exquisite timing?....
