ANU VC Brian Schmidt opens student entrepreneur competition
Vice-Chancellor of The Australian National University (ANU), Professor Brian Schmidt AC, will help launch a national competition for the best student entrepreneurs from Australia and France on Thursday.
Professor Schmidt and the French Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Christophe Lecourtier, will open the 24-hour Australia-French Entrepreneurship Challenge at the ANU College of Business and Economics. Media are invited to attend.
The event brings together 48 PhD students from around Australia, and eight from France, who will compete in teams to develop a start-up project using their science and entrepreneurial skills.
“Turning ideas into practical solutions is a key element of university research,” Professor Schmidt said.
“Competitions such as Australia-French Entrepreneurship Challenge will give students valuable experience in developing the kind of starts ups that will be crucial to Australia’s economic development.”
The competition is a joint program of the French Government and the Australian Department of Industry Innovation and Science, with support from ANU and the Australian Academy of Science.
Winners will be announced at 6pm on Friday 3 June.
