Origins of photosynthesis

Stromatolites from Hamylin Pool WA. The Stromatolites contain Cyanobacteria and are found only in a few places on Earth. They are considered to be the first photosynthetic organisms and evolved to generate molecular oxygen 2.5 Billion years ago. The appearance of O2 dramatically transformed earth and was the "Big Bang" for biology that ultimately led to complex multicellular life.
