Molecular biology of nematodes

The nuclei of cells in the germ line of two Caenorhabditis elegans adult hermaphrodites. The nuclei are visualized using a transgenic strain of C. elegans in which a fluorescence tag is attached to a histone protein and expressed using a germ line specific promoter. The Nematode Molecular Biology group uses transgenic strains of C. elegans like this one to determine the effect of silencing expression of nematode-specific genes on key processes such as reproduction.
