The malaria parasite
![]() |
| The malaria parasite is a single-celled organism that invades the red blood cells of its human host. Groups within the School’s Division of Biomedical Science and Biochemistry study the molecular mechanisms on which the parasite relies to support its growth and replication within the host blood cell, as well as the mechanisms by which the parasite has become resistant to antimalarial drugs.
