Processes of community assembly

Developing bioinformatic tools for understanding the dynamics of : speciation, colonization, extinction and invasion within species assemblages

We have produced a complete phylogeny of New Zealand native birds (see Mol Phylog Evol 2011 61(3):958–963), including all known extinct and extanct species, which we are using to study patterns of species addition and loss to a unique avifauna. This research is supported by an ARC Discovery Grant (DP0880502: Phyloinformatics and biodiversity: developing bioinformatic tools for understanding the dynamics of extinction and invasion within species assemblages: Bromham)
