Identification of genes involved in animal body plan patterning

This project is based on comparative analysis of sponges and cnidarians, and will focus on genes that are:

(1) shared between sponges and cnidarians (and thus were likely involved in axial patterning of their last common ancestor, which was also the last common ancestor of all animals), and

(2) differentially expressed between related sponge species characterized by strikingly different body plans (and thus might be responsible for these differences).
