Australian native truffle diversity

Variation in truffles

Description

Australia is home to the largest diversity of truffles. In collaboration with Professor Jim Trappe (University of Oregon State University), we have the opportunity to assess truffle diversity associated with specific environments, host tree species etc.

Many of the truffle species are undescribed, but most likely valuable as mycorrhizal agents.

Many of these truflles are food sources for bettongs, potteroos etc, and a better understanding of their diversity, spread and availability throughout the year is required to assess conservation strategies for eg bettongs and potteroos.
