This will be a very light-hearted look at a heavy topic - death. This talk stems from having spent a year on sabbatical at an institute of advanced studies in Berlin, where I interacted with anthropologists, theologians, philosophers, novelists, economists and so on. The main outcome of the talk will assuredly be to expose my own ignorance of vast swaths of biology and philosophy of science. But this is actually a good thing. I hope it will remind you how much valuable knowledge resides with your colleagues and that, despite the seeming impossibility of talking with people in ‘other areas’, if one looks a little more closely, there is always common ground to be found.
