Platform technologies such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) have revolutionised the surveillance and characterisation of parasitic diseases. The application of NGS and other platform technologies to elucidating current knowledge gaps in the microbiome of Australian ticks, and their potential contribution to the aetiology of Australian Lyme-like disease will be discussed, along with the epidemiology and transmission dynamics of enteric and blood-borne parasites.
