Dr Pat Backwell won an Australian Award for University Teaching (formerly known as ALTC and Carrick Awards), for 'Outstanding contribution to student learning' in 2009. Recipients each received $10K.

Citation: For using multiple approaches to learning to inspire students to develop a holistic view of biology and to integrate biology into their lives.
