Entry Requirements and Enrolment

Honours in RSB has two enrolments: February and July. It is important you make your decision regarding Honours early. The School has a limited number of Honours places and there are quotas on the number of students that a supervisor may take.

You should finalise your decision by the end of November (whether starting in February or July). Some supervisors select their students as early as July, so the sooner you enroll, the more likely you are to get the supervisor and project that you want.

Entry requirements

The Biology Teaching and Learning Centre can be contacted for advice on entry requirements. Science at ANU - Honours can be visited for application forms. Note: ANU Science units count as 6 points. If you are not from the ANU, contact the Colleges of Science to determine equivalent grades.

Application Process

Students are responsible for arranging their own Honours supervision. Usually your primary supervisor would be a member of the Research School of Biology academic staff. You should contact potential supervisors well in advance of your proposed date of enrollment. Staff from outside RSB (e.g. JCSMR, Fenner, CSIRO) may also supervise Honours students. External or inexperienced supervisors may require a co-supervisor; check the requirements of the program in which you intend to enrol, or contact the Honours convenor. Co-supervisors are required to ensure that you follow the correct rules and requirements of the program. Once supervision has been arranged, complete the nomination of supervisor form in consultation with your supervisor, and submit to the relevant Honours Convener.

ANU students submit the Honours Application form, and the Nomination of Supervisor form to the Honours Convener.

International and domestic non-ANU students submit the relevant application form to Student Administration Services (address details are given on the form), and the Nomination of Supervisor form to the relevant Honours Convener.

What do our Honours students say?

"Honours was the best year of my degree. I learned more in Honours than all the other years put together: lab skills, writing skills, time-management and experimental design."
